San Francisco Giants & the Week That Was: Week Two a Bit Worse
Hitter of the Week: Trevor Brown
With Buster Posey nursing a sore foot after taking a foul ball off it, backup catcher Trevor Brown stepped in and put himself on the map. Behind Samardzija on Tuesday, Brown smoked a pair of two-run home runs as the Giants beat the Rockies 7-2. Those two dingers pushed Brown’s total to three hits on the season, all of which were two-run homers by that point.

Brown kept up the hot streak on Wednesday, collecting a single in his first at-bat before scoring on a Denard Span double. In his second chance, Brown doubled to left field to drive home Angel Pagan in the fifth inning. Brown couldn’t keep up the momentum when Posey returned to the lineup, being retired in both of his final two at-bats of the week.
Brown was known for his good defense beforehand, and earned his roster spot after a very strong performance in Spring Training. This week proved that Brown can handle the bat a little bit as well. Giving Posey a day off here and there isn’t a deathblow to the offense, as Brown can slot in to the bottom portion of the lineup.
Honorable mentions can be given to Angel Pagan (week one’s winner), who collected seven hits and scored five runs while picking up at least one hit in five of the week’s six games, and Brandon Belt, who slugged two home runs among his seven hits.
