San Francisco Giants & the Week That Was: Week Two a Bit Worse
Another week of action is in the books, but this one didn’t go quite as planned for the San Francisco Giants.
After such a strong opening week, during which the San Francisco Giants went 5-2 to open the season, they stumbled in week two through their first multi-city road trip of the season. After their first off-day of the season on Monday, the Giants hit the road on their way to Denver, Colorado. In the always unpredictable Coors Field, the Giants played an excellent game to open the series on Tuesday with a win, but were sloppy in the next two games. The Colorado Rockies took the final two games of the series, handing the Giants their first series loss of the infantile season.
They left the thin air in Colorado and traveled back west to Los Angeles, where they met the Dodgers for the team’s second matchup in as many weeks. The Giants took three of the four games back in San Francisco, but couldn’t keep that momentum up in hostile territory. The Dodgers opened the series with a win on Friday night, and finished it with a win in the finale on Sunday, bookending a Giants’ win on Saturday.
Overall, the Giants are now 7-6 on the year and sit third in the NL West. After the 2-4 road swing, the Giants head back to the Bay for a 10-game homestand. It kicks off with a four-game set against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Giants’ first look at the new-look division rivals, and then the Miami Marlins and new hitting coach Barry Bonds come to town. But before we head to the next series, let’s look at the week that was.
