Comparing Bay Area Sports Stars to WWE Wrestlers
By Dan Fappiano
Joe Thorton is…Chris Jericho
Some people may not believe in, but Chris Jericho is 45 years old. “Y2J”, as Jericho is known, has a match against the much-younger AJ Styles (38) at WrestleMania. In a time where the former champion Seth Rollins is only 29 and Roman Reigns, the expected WWE Championship winner at ‘Mania is only 30, Jericho has proven he can stand up to time.
Jericho is the first ever Undisputed Heavyweight Champion and a nine time Intercontinental Champion. Jericho has wrestled like a top star in 2016, proving that age doesn’t matter.
Joe Thorton is doing the same thing on the ice. At 36 years old, Thorton is defying the odds as an older guy on the hockey rink. He currently leads the San Jose Sharks and is in fifth place in all of the NHL in points with 78. Thorton is a six time All Star and won the Art Ross Trophy (top point scorer) and Hart Memorial Trophy (player judged to be most valuable to his team) in 2005-06.
Thorton has been in the NHL for 18 seasons, but he he hasn’t necesarily thought about retiring either. He recently signed a contract extension with the Sharks and was asked if he wants to retire a Shark.
"““I see myself as a Shark. My contract is up in two years and I still feel like playing, I want to be a Shark,” Thornton told QMI Agency Wednesday. “I love San Jose. I honestly see myself definitely finishing this contract and if I have the legs to hopefully play longer, stay in San Jose.”"

Clearly Thorton not only loves the Sharks but loves playing. He will most likely keep playing in the NHL for the near future. Jericho is signed on to WWE for the long run. He recently signed a new contract and should be with the company atleast for the next few months.
Jericho and Thorton are both considered old in their respective sports. But both keep competing and prove that the old guys still got it.
