San Francisco Giants: Five Predictions for the Upcoming Season
A Top Pitching Prospect Will Be Moved at the Trade Deadline
When the trade deadline rolls around, the Giants will find themselves in contention, as they usually always are in recent years. But in a surprisingly tough and deep division, the Giants will be looking for a certain edge that puts them over the top as they make that final push towards October. In order to get that extra piece, the Giants and general manager Bobby Evans will look outside the organization to swing a trade.

It’s a very familiar situation. A team battling for a spot in the postseason feels they are just one piece aways from truly making that deep October run. In order to get that missing link, they trade a young, talented prospect (or two or three) to improve the club now while potentially losing someone that could improve them in the future. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. The Giants have been on both ends.
San Francisco has a lot of talented young arms in the farm system, including Tyler Beede, Phil Bickford, Sam Coonrod, and Ray Black, just to name a few. One of those young studs (though not necessarily one of the four listed) will be moved, potentially as part of a package, to bring in that big leaguer with that something special the Giants feel they need to get back to the Fall Classic. Maybe Kyle Crick will finally put it all together in the minor leagues, and he can help the Giants in a less traditional way: as a trade piece.

The trade the Giants make won’t be a blockbuster. Rather, it would be more for a guy to fill in for an injury somewhere, or to take on a very specific role. It will be a good enough player to get people excited about the stretch run.
