5th Round (Second Pick): OT Willie Beavers, Western Michigan

For a potential day two or day three steal, Willie Beavers may be the guy. He was the anchor on the offensive line for the Western Michigan Broncos in 2015. Finishing 8-5, they fought Michigan State tough to only a 13-point loss, but made the best of his opportunity to compete against prime competition, slowing down fellow draft prospect Shilique Calhoun.

At 6’5″ and 321 lbs, Beavers has protypical size and skill set to be a left tackle. He also has the athleticism and good feet to keep defenders in front of him, and has the ability to run block and pass protection. The 49ers need more pass protection and with Beavers to learn behind Joe Staley and Davis, soon he would be able to take over.

To please Baalke, his run-blocking abilities are his strong suit as he is able to create pathways for the runners. Having to work on balance and handling elite competitiors on a consistent basis, Beavers is a prospect with high upside if he receives the proper coaching and can learn the playbook.

For a fifth-round pick and a team not going anywhere anytime soon, the 49ers can afford to have him wait and develop.
