San Francisco 49ers: NFL Draft Mock 1.0
Fifth Round (Order Undetermined): CB Harlan Miller, Southeastern Louisiana
The 49ers haven’t shied away from giving small school players a shot, and Miller could be the next. Jaquiski Tartt, out of Samford a year ago, wowed in the final games when Antoine Bethea went down.
With not much known about Miller, he has long-arms and the ability to break-up passes, as well as a solid frame of 6’0″, and 182 pounds. The 49ers can’t have enough depth at corner, as Tramaine Brock their best corner, finds ways to go on the injured list. Dontae Johnson, Kenneth Acker, and Keith Reaser haven’t shown enough, but their development is bright.
Miller is an interesting project and has a tendency to play all-out as if he is playing for something. That kind of fight might be enough to bump up a secondary that took a step back overall in 2015. With Eric Reid‘s concussion concerns, his aggressiveness is held back a little now, and Jimmie Ward is still up for a true identity at a position.
Not to mention, he has return abilities, as he averaged 11.3 yards per punt return in 2015. If corner doesn’t work out, using his return abilities could be essential for a deprived special teams.
