Two Cal Bears Basketball players have been named to All-Pac-12 teams, while another was given an honorable mention.

On Monday, the Pac-12 announced their All-Conference teams, which featured two California Golden Bears players. Freshman forward Jaylen Brown was named First Team All-Pac-12, while fellow frosh forward Ivan Rabb was named to the Second Team. Senior point guard Tyrone Wallace was given an Honorable Mention for his final season at Cal.

Brown and Rabb, both consensus top-10 recruits in the previous class, were key forces in a strong push by the Cal Bears this season. Brown is the team’s leading scorer at 15.3 points per game, and also pulled down 5.6 rebounds per contest, the second-best total on the team. Rabb leads Cal in rebounds and blocks, at 8.3 and 1.2 per game respectively, and is also shooting a team-high 60.5% percent from the floor.

Brown is putting up one of the best freshman seasons in Cal school history. His scoring average is third all-time among Cal frosh, behind Shareef Abdur-Rahim, who averaged 21.1 points in 1995-1996, and Ryan Anderson, who scored 16.7 per game in 2006-2007. He’s one of five finalists for the Wayman Tisdale National Freshman of the Year Award, and is the first Cal freshman to be named All-Conference first team since forward Leon Powe in the 2003-2004 season.

Rabb, a local kid from Oakland, California, can become the first Bear to shoot over 60 percent for a full season since Solomon Hughes shot 62.9 percent in the 2000-2001 season. Rabb, at 69.1 percent this year, is a much better free-throw shooter than Hughes (42.6 percent) was in that season. Rabb has also made his only three-point attempt of the year. The 6’11” power forward leads the team with 10 double-doubles, and can break Anderson’s school record for rebounds by a freshman with 11 more.

Wallace was an All-Pac-12 First-Teamer last year, when he totaled 564 points, 235 rebounds, 131 assists, and 42 steals, all numbers that led the Bears. Wallace’s production fell a little bit this year as the team around him became a lot better with the addition of the two freshman, but he has still put together a nice year. Despite missing five games in January and February because of a broken bone in his non-shooting hand, Wallace is second on the team in scoring at 15.2 points per game, third in rebounding at 5.4 per contest, and first on the team with 4.3 assists and one steal per game.

In addition, Brown and Rabb were both named to the conference’s All-Freshman Team. This is the fourth time in school history that Cal has had a duo of freshman named to the team, and the first since Powe and Marquise Kately in 2003-2004.
