2016 NFL Combine Wrap-Up for the Cal Bears
Stephen Anderson, Tight End
Measurables:
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 230 lbs.
Arm Length: 32″
Hand Size: 9-1/4″
Stephen Anderson entered the Combine with the idea around him that he would be one of the smallest tight ends, and his measurements confirmed. He’s tied with UCLA’s Thomas Duarte as the shortest of the group, and is one pound lighter than Duarte to make him the lightest tight end. His arms are the shortest, while his hands are tied for the smallest, along with top-ranked tight end Hunter Henry.
Drills (position ranking):
Bench Press (225 lbs): 16 (10/12)
Vertical Leap: 38″ (1/12)
Broad Jump: 119″ (4/12)
Anderson needed to have a good Combine to help his draft stock, which is iffy at best at this point, and did pretty well in the drills. His strength wasn’t great, finishing in the bottom three in bench press, and disappointingly, he didn’t run a lot of the drills. He did pace the field of tight ends with a 38-inch vertical leap, and was fourth in the broad jump at 119 inches.

In receiving drills, Anderson was unable to stand out in a mostly unremarkable group of tight ends. He dropped a couple passes, but ran fairly nice routes, and showed a pretty good ability to track deep balls. Overall, Anderson didn’t do a whole lot to propel himself to the top of the weak group, as his good athletic drills mixed with average position workouts mostly evened out. Maybe in the late rounds a team will be willing to take Anderson over some others that worked out Saturday, but it doesn’t seem overly likely at this point.
