San Francisco Giants Pitcher Projections… As Hitters
Before Bumgarner arrived on the scene wielding his mighty sword of offense, Cain was the best hitting pitcher on the Giants’ staff. He has six home runs on his resume, including back-to-back multi-home run seasons in 2007 and 2008, and has hit 10 doubles, a triple, and driven in 27 runs.

He’s not a big offensive threat these days, as evidenced by an .095 average with no extra-base hits in the past three seasons. Last year following his return to the mound after an elbow surgery and flexor tendon strain, he scuffled to an ohfer in 16 at-bats, but did record an RBI on a sac fly. As his pitching ability has gone downhill, so has his batting prowess.
Cain is no longer what one would call a dangerous hitter, but he does have that past. He can run into one every now and again, but Bumgarner is far and away the best hitter on the staff now. Maybe as Cain regains form on the mound, he can figure out something at the plate as well.
Projections:
Average – .122
Doubles – 1
Home Runs – 0
RBI – 1
Runs – 2
Sacrifices – 7
