Five Bay Area Players to Watch in the NFL Combine
Kevin Hogan, Stanford QB
Fifth-Year Senior, 6’4″, 218 lbs.
For a school that has some great quarterbacks in their history, no signal-caller has won more as the Cardinal’s starting quarteback than Hogan. Not Andrew Luck. Not Jim Plunkett. Not John Elway. He may not have the overall numbers, but there’s no denying that he is a winner.
As a fifth-year senior in 2015, Hogan was second-team All-Pac-12, leading Stanford to a 12-2 record and a Rose Bowl win over Iowa. He did have some help, namely from sophomore running back Christian McCaffrey, the Heisman runner-up, but Hogan was the leader of the offense. He also participated in the Senior Bowl, completing three of his four pass attempts for 41 yards in his field time.
He’s second all-time in Cardinal history with a 65.9 percent completion rate, and third in school history with 9,385 yards and 75 touchdowns. Hogan is a pro-style quarterback who should have a fairly easy time translating to an NFL offense, but his awkward delivery could use some tinkering at the next level.
Hogan doesn’t have the hype or numbers of his counterpart across the Bay Goff, but he does have an excellent track record. A team should definitely be willing to take a late-round flyer on Hogan. With an impressive showing in the Combine, he could force a team to take him in an earlier round.
