Oakland Raiders: 2016 Offseason In House To Do List
By Kevin Saito
Penn has stated repeatedly that he wants to remain a Raider. He wants to finish is career in Silver and Black. Reggie McKenzie should absolutely make Penn’s dream a reality and sign him to another deal.
Yeah, Penn will be 33 this season. But he’s also shown that he is still more than capable of playing at a very high level. Paired with young stud Gabe Jackson on the left side of the offensive line, Penn has flourished after Tampa Bay declared him washed up and cut him loose a couple of seasons ago.

The left side of the Raiders’ offensive line has been rock solid in both run blocking and pass protection. And Penn, in particular has been outstanding, grading out as one of the top tackles in the league according to Pro Football Focus.
When they signed him after his release by the Buccaneers, Penn was given a 2 year, $9.6 million dollar deal – a deal that turned out to be a bargain. But because Penn is on the wrong side of 30 and has a stated desire to continue playing for the Raiders, the team could probably bring him back on a similar deal – a team friendly deal that should make McKenzie happy.
It’s a contract that wouldn’t break the bank, would provide terrific value, and maintain the wall of protection on the left side of the Raiders’ line. Plus, Penn is somebody Carr likes, is comfortable with, and wants to see return.
Re-signing Penn should be a high priority for McKenzie and the Raiders this offseason.
