The Oakland Raiders have had some of the most dynamic quarterbacks the league has ever seen – here are the top ten in franchise history.
The Oakland Raiders, like most teams in the league not named the Cleveland Browns, have had their fair share of greatness under center. They’ve also had their fair share of busts – just like the Browns. What’s interesting is that there is an enormous gap between those who can claim the mantle of greatness and those who can’t even claim the mantle of competence.
Since their inception in 1960, the Raiders have had some great quarterbacks. But for every great one, they’ve had a dozen not so great ones – and even a few horrible ones.
That’s what makes putting a list like this together a bit of a challenge. There are some obvious names you’d put on a best of a list. But it’s a mere handful. Perhaps even a little bit less than that. After those obvious names, though, the competition just drops off the table, and you have a free for all.
Most people can agree on the top five quarterbacks in franchise history – though some will quibble about the order, they’re ranked in. But beyond the top five, it’s a wide open field. It leads to some interesting and spirited debates, not to mention, some mind boggling inclusions to the “all-time great” list – guaranteed, somebody will say Terrelle Pryor.
But that’s why we put up lists like this – to promote and encourage discussion about this team we all love so much.
So without further ado, let’s take a look at the top ten quarterbacks in the history of the Raiders.
