September brings about plenty of movement for the San Francisco Giants. They’re in a tight spot in the division, as their heartbreaking 14-inning walk-off loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers drops them 4.5 games back in the division with six head-to-head games left. They’re not dead yet, but they are running low on breathe. The team is hoping some of their September call-ups can help change their fortunes.

The Giants have suffered through injury after injury, and maddening inconsistencies from their pitching staff has not helped their cause. They need a boost, and they’re hoping that some of the new faces can provide that for them.

Along with rookies being recalled, some players have been activated from the disabled list, and the Giants were able to swing a last-second trade before the calendar flipped its page to September. Though there’s no August waiver-trade deadline, per se, players had to be acquired before the clock struck midnight on August 31st, otherwise that player would not be allowed on the postseason roster. The Giants beat the clock, and if they were to sneak in the playoffs, they could keep their guys together.

September breeds new hope for the Giants, who have had their backs against the wall before.
