Grand slams are always sweet, but when they come against your bitter rivals, there’s an added bit of juiciness. On June 19th, Posey took matters into his own hands against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Trailing 1-0 to Mike Bolsinger and company in the third inning, Posey stepped up with the bases chock full of his friends, and two outs. On a 2-2 pitch, Bolsinger hung a curveball way up in the zone. It was an old “hang ’em and bang ’em”, as Posey slammed it into the bullpen past the left field wall. Bolsinger had to watch for only a second to know that he’d been done in by a bad pitch.

The grand slam, the third of Posey’s career, sent the Giants’ fans in attendance in Chavez Ravine into a frenzy, sounding a bit more like AT&T Park than Dodger Stadium. San Francisco eventually won 9-5, but Posey’s shot was the blow that put them ahead for good.

And just for good measure, Posey also stole a base in that game, becoming the first Giants’ catcher to hit a grand slam and swipe a bag in the same game since Roger Bresnahan in 1903, according to good old Elias.
