Heston, a rookie who was originally an injury substitute, has become the Giants’ second-most reliable behind Madison Bumgarner, and has made it impossible to be taken out of the rotation. He leads all Major League rookies with eight wins, 91.2 innings pitched, and 79 strikeouts.

Heston was excellent in his most recent outing, going seven innings and allowing five hits and two runs with six strikeouts. He would earn the win against the San Diego Padres in what would eventually become a 13-8 slugfest.

  • The 27-year-old has never faced the Marlins or anyone in their lineup. Surprisingly, that includes Gordon, who was on the Dodgers in 2014. Heston faced LA in two relief appearances last year, but never got to see Gordon.

Haren has become a very solid option for Miami, a team he was reluctant to pitch for in the offseason. He currently sports a 3.38 ERA, 1.007 WHIP, and nearly four strikeouts per walk.

He has lost three straight starts, giving up nine runs in 18.1 innings. That’s not awful, but Miami has given him just two runs of support over those three games. That obviously won’t get the job done.

Earlier this year against the Giants, Haren pitched a great game, allowing two runs on eight hits in seven innings to earn the win. He even helped his own cause by driving in two with a double. Angel Pagan career is 6-11 (.545) against Haren, with a double, triple, and home run. Belt is 3-9 (.333) with a double and home run.
