With the way things are shaping up, Vogelsong is going to keep his spot in the rotation for the time being, and he definitely earned it with his last two starts. He didn’t allow a run in either, spanning 12.2 innings, and surrendered just eight hits while striking out 10. In the 12 games since he joined the rotation on a more permanent basis, Vogelsong is 6-4 with a 3.10 ERA and 1.134 WHIP.

Vogelsong faced the Marlins earlier in the season, and allowed just a run in seven innings, but didn’t factor in the decision in what would eventually be a 3-2 Giants’ win.

He’ll have to be careful with former Dodger nemesis Dee Gordon. The speedster is 11-32 (.344) against Vogelsong. On the other hand, Ichiro Suzuki is 0-11.

Latos was a guy who was supposed to be a big part of a turning Miami back into a winner. Instead, he’s struggled badly and is now a trade candidate as we get closer to the July deadline. In his last five starts, Latos has allowed 20 runs in 28 innings.

In Vogelsong’s earlier start facing the Marlins, Latos was his counterpart, and matched him every step of the way. Latos also went seven innings while giving up just a single run, but also ended up with a no decision.

Brandon Belt will look to heat his bat back up against Latos, against whom he’s had a lot of success. Belt is 5-12 (.417) in the matchup with a double and a triple.
