Could this be the last time we see the Tims in this rotation setup? Matt Cain made what should be final rehab start with the Sacramento RiverCats on Thursday, going 5.2 innings and giving up five hits and two runs with four strikeouts. Jake Peavy is set to go Friday in what will be his final tune-up start. Hudson and Lincecum have looked like the weakest links lately in the rotation. Nothing is official yet though, but Cain is tentatively slated to start July 2nd, where Hudson’s spot would fall..

As San Francisco tries to move forward without Nori Aoki and Hunter Pence, Gregor Blanco‘s role with the Giants expands once again. Like years past, Blanco has been an excellent fill-in this season, hitting at a cool .301. Since returning from the concussion disabled list, Blanco is 8-18 (.444) with six RBI in just six games. He can make those injuries hurt the team a little less if he can keep up this hot streak.

The Giants had two of their young prospects named to the All-Star Futures rosters. Double-A Richmond pitcher Tyler Beede is on the United States Roster, and Advanced-A San Jose pitcher Keury Mella is on the World Roster. Their presence on those rosters indicates that they have surpassed Kyle Crick as the team’s top pitching prospects.
