Rodger Saffold

This falls into more of the “dishonorable mention” category simply because Saffold was never really a member of the Silver and Black. Not really. He was signed – at one point – and then he wasn’t.

GM Reggie McKenzie thought he was pulling off something of a coup when he lured massive free agent offensive lineman Rodger Saffold away from the Rams and to the Bay Area. Oakland had a need on the offensive line and so McKenzie offered him a five year, $42.5 million dollar deal.

  • The signing drew a ton of backlash from Oakland’s fans who took to social media to rightly lambast the move. Curiously enough, Saffold failed his physical with the team, citing Oakland’s concerns over a pre-existing shoulder injury and the deal was never consummated.

Ultimately, after Saffold was bounced out of Oakland. The Rams though, declared that they had no concerns about the injury at all, and St. Louis who happily re-signed him – only to see him injure that shoulder the Raiders had been concerned about.
