As a rookie, Derek Carr posted a pretty successful campaign. It had its ups and downs of course, but with more than 3,000 yards passing, 21 touchdowns against just 12 picks, one thing Carr proved beyond the shadow of a doubt, is that the game is not too big for him, and that he has the potential to be a franchise quarterback.
What Carr lacked in 2014 though, was an actual receiving corps to work with.
In 2015 though, Carr is going to be working with Michael Crabtree, who came across the Bay to join the Raiders, Rod Streater, the former number one receiver who is back from injury, and of course, the most exciting, polished, and arguably best player in this year’s draft, Amari Cooper.
Carr and Cooper, or AC/DC as some folks are calling them, have the potential to be the most exciting, and potentially dominant quarterback/receiver combinations in the league this season.
We know what Carr brings to the table in terms of ability, athleticism, and leadership. He has intangibles that are rare for a player as young as he is, but they all go into why he could be the solution at quarterback the Raiders have been searching for so long.
With Cooper, we also know what he brings to the table. And in the early days of his Raiders career, he is living up to his billing and then some. Cooper has impressed veterans and coaches alike with his smoothness, his precise route running, his hands, and his maturity.
He’s been a Raider for all of a minute, yet he’s already digested the entire playbook, and is running his routes crisply and precisely. He’s been impressive and the sky is truly the limit for Cooper. He adds a dimension to the Raiders’ offense that the team hasn’t had in a very, very long time.
And combined with Carr – this Raiders offense is going to explode in a very big way in 2015 and beyond.
