They’ll Be the Best Team in the Bay Area
To say that the San Francisco 49ers have had a tumultuous offseason would be something of an understatement. In fact, it would be an incredibly vast understatement. With the retirements of Justin Smith and Patrick Willis, the 49ers had the heart and soul ripped out of their defense. That was only compounded by the unexpected retirement of star in the making, Chris Borland. Add to that, the unexpected retirement of 25-year old Anthony Davis, and a bunch of free agent departures – many starters among them – and San Francisco seems to be in a state of flux, if not chaos.

The Raiders though, with a few consecutive solid drafts, as well as an offseason that has seen some very savvy free agent pick ups, have positioned themselves to have some success this season. They have one of the most talented – and youngest – rosters that they’ve had in quite a while, and have laid a foundation for some real long term success.
Though it didn’t look like it in the beginning, GM Reggie McKenzie has had a solid plan all along, and has been building according to that plan – and it seems to finally be bearing fruit.
For a nice change of pace, the Raiders look like the solid, stable franchise in the Bay Area, while the 49ers look to be the team in turmoil. The Raiders, after beating San Francisco in the regular season last year, helping put a dagger in their playoff hopes, have the chance to be the jewel of the Bay Area once again.
