The San Francisco Giants have performed admirably in the 2015 season. The team currently holds a 30-25 record and is sitting in second place in the NL West, only two games behind the Dodgers.

The NL West was expected to be overly saturated with the Dodgers and the newly rebuilt San Diego Padres. The Giants have manned the course and remain heavy contenders 55 games in.

The Giant’s formula for winning has been consistent hitting, (.272 average, second in the MLB), great fielding, (.986 fielding percentage, eighth in the MLB), and having a capable pitching staff that can go deep into games, (30 Quality Starts, tied for fifth in MLB).

The Giant’s success has not come without some turmoil though, as the team has experienced struggles throughout the season’s early days. The Giant’s experienced some injuries, with their star outfielder Hunter Pence and pitcher Matt Cain both going down to injuries. The Casey McGehee experiment also failed, as he proved he could not be the team’s everyday third basemen, and was demoted.

Overall, the Giants have done a great job at overcoming the obstacles and look to be a true contender as the season progresses. But to really be a true contender, the team should add some pieces at the trade deadline.

If the team were to add a position player or two or a pitcher who can make a difference, they could truly become a driving force in the National League.

These players would allow for the Giants to add on to their glut of talent and become an even better team on their quest to repeat as World Series Champions.
