Hernangomez is not a well known name, but he could be an international sleeper who can surprise a few with the last pick in the draft. He actually played on the same team as lottery prospect Kristaps Porzingis. He doesn’t hold the same top-five potential as Porzingis, but he could still be a valuable late first round pick for the Warriors.
Hernangomez stands 6’11”, weighs 255 pounds, and has 7’1.5″ wingspan at only 20 years old. He is strong down low and has an array of post moves. His rebounding is strong now, but he can improve. He could also improve on the defensive side, blocking the rim. Overall, he averaged 10.4 PPG, 6.1 RPG, and 0.4 BPG.
The benefit of Hernangomez is that the Warriors have enough talent on their roster, they can take a chance on a foreign prospect. Not all of them play out, but having a talented, young roster, the Warriors can select Hernangomez and not be hurt too bad if he doesn’t pan out.
The Warriors got burned by first round draft pick Nemanja Nedova last season, but Hernangomez has a better basketball I.Q, and provides the Warriors with more upside.
Hernangomez isn’t as well known as the first four players mentioned, but he may offer the most long term potential, and could be a sneaky draft pick overall for the Warriors.
