Derek Carr Gives Us All The Finger

It began to trickle out slowly at first. And then it became a rushing river news that made the blood run cold in every Raider fan around the planet – Derek Carr suffered an injury that is keeping him out of OTA’s. Even worse was the idea that he was going to need surgery to correct whatever the injury to the ring finger on his throwing hand was.

With visions of Christian Ponder under center dancing through their heads, Raider fans immediately began to despair for the upcoming season – and we’re still months away from the start of it!

Carr’s agent was quick to make the rounds and talk everybody down from the ledge. He said the injury was very, very minor and would not require surgery to correct after all. Of course, it’s Carr’s agent saying all of that and not Carr himself, so there was likely a good chunk of the Raider faithful skeptical enough to remain concerned.

But in a very nice change of pace, the news being put out in front of us actually seems to match the news going on behind the scenes. It turns out that Carr’s injury is indeed, not nearly as serious as was first being suggested and rumored, and that he in fact, will not need surgery – though he is expected to miss some OTA-time.

With new faces and a new system to learn, Carr really can’t afford to be missing OTA-time. He needs to start learning to develop that trust and chemistry with his backs and receivers, and that will be tough – if not impossible – to do with him on the sidelines.

It’s not known exactly how much time he’s going to miss, but it’s being reported that he may be back before the end of OTA’s, but will most likely be throwing full speed again long before training camp gets ramped up.

It was a scary bit of news for Raider fans, but one that thankfully, appears to have a relatively happy ending.
