Out of the whole mess that has been the Raiders’ stadium situation, a few things have been made crystal clear for the Raider Nation – and they’re things the Oakland faithful should be very happy about.
First of all, Mark Davis put to rest any lingering doubts and fears about him taking the Raiders to the Midwest. The idea that Davis could pull up stakes and take the Raiders to St. Louis is something that’s been heavily suggested and rumored for quite some time – basically, ever since Rams’ owner Stan Kroenke announced that come hell or high water, he was bringing his team back to LA.
The jolt of fear that ran through the Raider Nation was palpable only because it seemed like a realistic possibility. Given the Raiders’ fight to get a deal for a new stadium done with the city of Oakland and Alameda County – and the unproductive fiasco that is turning out to be – coupled with the plan in St. Louis for a gorgeous new riverside stadium, and nobody could really be blamed for have a genuine sense of worry about the Raiders calling Missouri home.
But Davis put it all to rest this week when he vigorously denied that he was taking the Raiders to St. Louis. Davis said he had zero interest in that idea, that the Raiders would not be heading to the Midwest, that he would in fact, not be selling the team to anybody, and that the suggestions that Oakland was Missouri-bound were totally false reports.
He also said that becoming a tenant in Levi Stadium, home to the San Francisco 49ers was a non-starter, and that he had no desire for the Raiders to be a mere tenant in somebody else’s stadium.
He then reiterated his desire to keep the team in Oakland, all the while reminding us that LA is a very distinct possibility if the city and county don’t get something done. Soon. Very soon.
