Oakland Raiders: Biggest Storylines From First Week Of OTA’s

Like other teams around the league, the Oakland Raiders kicked off the first of their three OTA sessions this week.

No, it’s not the most exciting time of year, but it can be potentially, one of the most interesting. It’s really, our first look at the team as a whole – though it will obviously be pared down as we draw closer to the start of the regular season. But we get to see the rookies in action, and see how they stack up against the veteran players – and see how the vets stack up against the talented, young playmakers.

During the OTA sessions, we can sometimes see the camp battles that are forming, and see where there are going to be some serious challenges to playing time.

We also get to see other varied and interesting stories start to take shape. For instance, we are getting to our first real look at Trent Richardson in a Raiders’ uniform and seeing what he can bring to the table. By a few different accounts, in limited time and activity, Richardson has looked very good so far.

Of course, it’s a whole lot easier to look good in OTA’s than it is in actual games. It will be interesting to see how he develops as he finds his niche in Del Rio and OC Bill Musgrave‘s systems.

So, with the first week of OTA’s in the books, let’s take a look at some of the bigger storylines to come out of it. Unfortunately for us though, most of the headlines that came out had little to do with actually football…
