Carrier, much like Vance McDonald has many question marks surrounding him. He has been in the league for three years, but has only managed to play in sixteen games.
He seems like another guy much like McDonald who is still trying to make his mark in the NFL — and he partially is, though his career statistics amount to nine catches for 105 yards.
While that isn’t remarkable, or even noteworthy, the 49ers did manage to give Carrier a start in week three of the 2014 NFL season. Along with the that, the team signed him to an extension through 2017 worth as much as $3.3 million.
The 49ers seem invested in Carrier and believe he has potential. Standing 6’3″ 238 pounds, he does have ideal size for a pass-catching tight end.
Carrier was injured to end the 2014 season, being placed on Injured Reserve in November. But he will look to prove that he could be a viable starter. The 49ers seem somewhat invested in Carrier, but that can all change with another injury or a continuation of poor play.
For now, his roster spot seems safe due to the 49ers signing him to an extension, but he needs to prove his NFL worth before the 49ers move on.
