Round 7: (218) OT Anthony Morris
Reggie McKenzie loves his late round picks, stockpiling three of them in the seventh round. He used the first one on OT Anthony Morris from Tennessee State. At 6’7”, 303 lbs., Morris is a mountain of a man. But he’s very athletic and surprisingly light on his feet.
Don’t expect to see much of Morris this year though. He’s a bit of a project, and he’s not quite polished enough to challenge either Donald Penn or Austin Howard for the starting tackle spots this year. Both of the veterans are playing well and look like they could possibly be with the Raiders for a little while yet.
Morris though, is athletic enough that he can be versatile. It wouldn’t be entirely surprising to see Tice grooming him to take over one of the starting guard spots in the not too distant future. The Raiders need a solid guard in the worst way possible.
Veteran Khalif Barnes is likely going to handle the duties this year, and he’s been very good in the role. But Morris is younger, faster, stronger, and more athletic. Morris gives the Raiders some depth, and brings some attitude and edge to the unit.
Give him a year, and you’ll see him helping anchor the Raiders’ offensive line. It’s an unheralded but solid pick by McKenzie.
