Week 5: Denver Broncos (2014 Record: 12-4)

And here is where Oakland will encounter their first bump of the year. Week five, against their arch-nemsis Denver.

Denver lost a lot of players over the course of the offseason. Julius Thomas, Terrance Knighton, Rahim Moore, and others, departed the Mile High city for greener – and more lucrative – pastures. But the big problem for Oakland – and other teams around the league – is that Denver still has Peyton Manning under center, and he’s still throwing the ball to Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders, and second year man Cody Lattimer, who seems poised for a big year.

  • To be sure, Denver isn’t the same team they’ve been the last couple of seasons. Manning began to show his age last season, but he’s still capable of putting up big numbers. Though, with the emergence of a strong running game behind C.J. Anderson, Manning doesn’t have to carry the load anymore. Denver has a very potent offense, and a very solid defense.

Oakland is better, much better than they’ve been in season’s past. But they likely don’t yet have enough to get over a hump the size of Denver. Not even at home. Not even with the added motivation of Del Rio facing his former team. They’ll get there, but probably not just yet.

The game will be far more competitive than they’ve been in a while, but the Raiders will likely suffer a defeat at the hands of their bitter rivals.

    Prediction: LOSS

    Raiders 24; Denver 31

    Record: 4-1
