Week 3: @Cleveland Browns (2014 Record: 7-9)
As bad as the Raiders have been over the last decade plus, the Browns have been even worse. If the NFL handed out awards for the most dysfunctional franchise in the league, the Browns would be perennial contenders. From sideline texting scandals to letting a prospect talk them into burning a first round draft pick on him – who then proved to be a big flop as well as a terrible distraction – Cleveland has earned its dubious nickname, the “Factory of Sadness.”
The Browns have upgraded their receiving corps with the addition of Brian Hartline and Dwayne Bowe – an upgrade primarily because Josh Gordon is going to miss the entire season – but the problem is who they have throwing the ball to them. Barring a dramatic draft day deal, the Browns will be relying on the new and improved Johnny Manziel or Josh McCown to lead the offense – neither of which is a particularly confidence inspiring choice.
Against the worst ranked run defense in the league last season – the Browns gave up nearly 142 yards a game – expect the Raiders to give Cleveland a very heavy does of its rushing attack. The combination of Richardson, Murray, and Helu will give the Browns fits, and could lead to one of the most prolific rushing days the Raiders have had in quite some time.
And more importantly, they will get that King Kong sized monkey off their backs by winning in the Eastern Time Zone – something they’ve not done since 2009
Prediction: WIN
Browns 10; Raiders 31
Record: 3-0
