ROUND 6 (190th OVERALL) – OG MILES DIEFFENBACH (PENN STATE)

Nov 29, 2014; University Park, PA, USA; Penn State Nittany Lions guard Miles Dieffenbach (65) during the second quarter against the Michigan State Spartans at Beaver Stadium. Michigan State defeated Penn State 34-10. Mandatory Credit: Matthew O

Dieffenbach is going to be a mystery pick in 2015. After missing most of 2014 due to a torn ACL, scouts have to rely on his game tape from his junior year. The senior film will be misjudged based on the small sample size, but Dieffenbach provides good interior strength and size to potentially swing to center and guard. At 6’3″ 303 lbs, he has good pulling skills to make his blocks in space.

Pass blocking is what he needs to work on, but he is a solid run blocker with his strength and sealing blocks. The injury seems to have slowed him down some, but he is starting to show signs of his old self. The unbalance may be a result of coming back from the injury.

Baalke and the 49ers love their run offense and run blocking abilities on the offensive line. Guard depth is down for the 49ers right now, and Dieffenbach would be a nice swing guard to boost the already stout run game. There’s a good chance Dieffenbach may go undrafted, but a sixth round pick may be worth bringing him in, as he will eventually return to his old form. Plus you can’t go wrong with drafting Penn State lineman. Hard nose football and they are tough.
