The Oakland Raiders are going to win the Super Bowl!

Like the weeks leading up to MLB’s Opening Day, the weeks – and months – leading up to the start of the NFL season are marked with a bottomless well of good feelings, hope, and optimism. Unless you’re a Cleveland Browns fan, anyway.

Of course, it’s easy to get pumped up about your team’s chances when everybody’s record is 0-0, and there is nothing meaningful on the line. It’s when the games start to matter that things get real and your mental well being rises and falls with your team.

For Raider fans, when the games get real, it’s unfortunately fallen for more than a decade now.

But with some very solid, very key foundation pieces in place, and some upgraded talent up and down – with more to be added through the forthcoming NFL Draft – the roster, there are some very real reasons for Raider fans to feel good and have a sense of optimism heading into the 2015 season.

No, Oakland isn’t likely going to make a serious run at the Lombardi Trophy this season – but what a story that would make – but there is every reason to believe that they are going to be far more competitive in 2015, and will be vastly improved in the win column.

Undoubtedly, there will be some who claim that anybody taking that position is simply seeing the world through Silver and Black colored glasses. But then, there will always be haters, right? The team is trending in the right direction, and the moves the club has made this offseason, from the coach to the players they’ve brought in, has made this a better ballclub than the one who took the field in 2014.

What’s important for Raider fans to remember is to temper and manage their expectations. It’s very plausible for this Oakland squad to win quite a few more games than they have in recent memory, and it’s even somewhat possible that they can contend for an AFC West title.

They are likely still a little way off from competing for the game’s ultimate prize, but they will be much better and far more competitive this season.

It’s never too early for the Raiders to set some goals for the upcoming season. Or at least, for us to set them for the organization, anyway. Meeting these goals will undoubtedly make the team better, will lead to more wins – and from there, the sky is the limit.

So with that in mind, here are some very feasible, very realistic goals for the Raiders in 2015.
