What is the Giants’ biggest concern heading into 2015?

Aug 3, 2014; New York, NY, USA; San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner (40) is greeted by greeted by pitcher Tim Lincecum (55) after striking out New York Mets catcher Travis d

Phillip: The starting rotation. While the Giants have always been known for their pitching, there are four out of five that have question marks. Peavy & Hudson’s ages are a concern, and Cain and Lincecum have production concerns. Bumgarner is the only safe one to not worry about.

Neil: I think the biggest concern is going to be the starting rotation. Matt Cain is returning from surgery with almost a full season off. Tim Hudson had surgery also in the offseason, and we never know what’s going to happen with Lincecum these past few years.

Chris: Starting pitching. I have full confidence in Madison Bumgarner and Matt Cain but the bottom of the rotation ran out of gas last season. Tim Hudson and Jake Peavy have had great careers, but they are not as dominant as they once were and spot starters will be needed in the second half of the season.

Marc: The biggest question facing the Giants is the pitching staff. After missing on Jon Lester and James Shields, San Francisco was forced to bring back both Jake Peavy and Ryan Vogelsong, essentially keeping the pitching staff the same from last season. Madison Bumgarner will be great as expected but questions surround all other starters. Can Matt Cain return to form? Will Tim Lincecum shake off his past struggles? If so, the Giants will be fine. If not, San Francisco may be in for a tough year.

Sean: The rotation is the biggest question mark for 2015. After years of having the starters be the biggest strength, it looks like, on paper, the biggest weakness now. Bumgarner will do his thing, but every one behind him has some sort of cloud hanging over him.
