Grade the Giants’ offseason, and the moves made during the offseason.

Phillip Benson: I’d grade the Giants offseason a B-. Spring training hasn’t really reflected how this team truly is, but it has been atrocious so far. But the Giants found resurgence in Justin Maxwell, and decent fill-ins with Nori Aoki and Casey McGehee.

Neil Povio: I like the offseason the Giants had. For one, it was short, so baseball returned sooner. As far as moves, the organization did everything they could to sign some of the top names in free agency, but came in second place in the signings for many of those guys, like Yasmani Tomas, Jon Lester, and James Shields, to name a few. Brian Sabean and the Giants were able to fill the organization’s holes this season with some quality guys, but I expect the Giants to spend big next offseason with the money they saved this offseason and all the money that’s coming off the books at the end of this season from players becoming free agents like Tim Lincecum, Tim Hudson, Jeremy Affeldt, Angel Pagan, and a couple more.

Chris Montoya: C. While i do like the Aoki signing and i believe Casey McGhee will have a decent season, the Giants took some hard losses.

Marc Grandi: C+. While San Francisco lost Pablo Sandoval and Michael Morse and failed to sign any of the top free agents, it was not for lack of trying. The Giants pursued most (if not all) of the top pitching free agents and offered them hefty contracts but to no avail. Acquiring Casey McGehee and Nori Aoki cannot be overlooked either, as their games perfectly complement the dimensions AT&T Park offers. However, it would be hard to convince anyone that the Giants improved this offseason after losing two hitters that occupied the middle of the lineup last season.

Sean Bialaszek: I think a C+ is a good grade. The team lost a couple key parts with Michael Morse and Pablo Sandoval leaving, but they added some guys who fit their style very well, in Casey McGehee and Nori Aoki. They didn’t upgrade the rotation either, but not for lack of trying. Plus, signing Brian Sabean and Bruce Bochy to extensions make things a lot better.
