The Raiders Are Moving to St. Louis

Los Angeles? San Antonio? St. Louis? It seems like the Raiders have been connected to almost every city in the U.S. at this point. With the Rams making a strong push to wind up in the LA market — and the Chargers supposedly the NFL’s preferred second tenant in the area — some are speculating that the Raiders are going to wind up in this plush new riverside stadium that is going to be built in St. Louis.

Yeah, the St. Louis Raiders. Let that soak in a minute.

What some of these talking heads aren’t taking into consideration though, is the fact that the very real prospect of actually losing the Raiders for a second time has seemingly lit a fire beneath the city of Oakland and Alameda County to get all of the pertinent parties in a room, and get them to play together nicely.

The deal is a long way from being done, of course, and it could still go belly up at any point. But there has been some real progress, and some real movement toward getting a stadium for the Raiders built, and the so-named Coliseum City project off the ground. For the first time in quite a while, it looks like the city and county are making a real push to keep the Raiders where they belong.

And all it took was the prospect of losing out on tens of millions of dollars as well as thousands of jobs.
