9. The Pence Fence Catch

Hunter Penceis known throughout the league as being a relentless, passionate player. While his batting stance, running strides, and throwing angles are unorthodox to say the least, Pence’s enthusiasm allows him to be one of the more productive players in the game. After all, only Pence, Bumgarner, andTim Hudsonwere named All-Stars last season, proving himself as a member of the Giants core.

During his first run with the Giants in 2012, Pence’s pregame speech served as a rallying cry for the comeback kings, but Pence struggled throughout the postseason at the plate.

Last season, Pence andPablo Sandovalwere the most dangerous hitters in the lineup for the Giants as they made up for the loss ofAngel Paganand Posey’s struggles. Pence’s defining moment of his career took place last October, due to his energy and determination.

With the Giants clinging on to a slim lead in a possible series-clinching game against the heavily favored Washington Nationals,Ryan Vogelsongwas pitching his heart out, but needed some help. But Pence wasn’t having that. Showing no fear of the wall behind him, Pence leapt and crashed into the wall, still holding on to the baseball to record the out. The crowd stood in amazement, and the stadium grew louder and louder as the replays showed of what had just happened. It was just the momentum that Vogelsong needed to close out the inning as the Giants would later pull off the upset.
