The San Francisco 49ers hold the 15th pick in the 2015 NFL draft. While the top three wide receivers in the draft —  Kevin White, Amari Cooper, and Devante Parker — most likely won’t be available, one intriguing prospect is Dorial Green-Beckham. The former Missouri/Oklahoma wide receiver has dealt with highly documented off the field problems but on the field, he could be a game-changer.

His measurables are comparable to that of All-Pro Calvin Johnson. They both stand 6’5″ and weigh 236 and 237 lbs respectively.  While Calvin’s 40 time was 4.25, Green-Beckham ran a4.49, and shined during his time at Missouri.

Some analysts argue that he, and not Cooper or White, could be the best receiver in this draft. One AFC scout feels that Green-Beckham would be the best wide receiving prospect since Calvin Johnson if not for his off the field problems.

"“He’s one of the best receivers I’ve ever seen, he’s gigantic, he has tremendous body control, balance, he runs like a deer, and can run out of the gym and high-point the ball”-AFC Scout"

While Dorial has all the on the field potential, it may be his off the field decisions that hurt him. His domestic abuse incident got him kicked off of the Missouri football team at a time when the NFL has been cracking down hard on domestic abuse cases.

It will be hard to tell if, in light of his situation, the Niners would take a chance on Green-Beckham or if they pass on him as too big of a risk. If they do roll the dice though, they could be getting a steal of a receiver who would have potentially been a top ten pick if he’d made better decisions away from the football field.

Dorial Green-Beckham has the intangibles to be the next Calvin Johnson, and if San Francisco pounces, they can have something they’ve lacked for a while — a potential Pro Bowl wide receiver to build around.
