Jeff Petry – Edmonton Oilers
Petry is exactly what the Sharks need — another solid defenseman to eat up some key minutes for San Jose leading up to playoff time. However, the price may be too high and the competition may be too steep. TSN has him ranked 2nd (as of Feb. 26 @4:30 pacific) on their trade bait list, which means that he is likely to be a very sought after commodity. The Sharks have not been linked to Petry in any rumors, but they could be a dark horse team to acquire him.

Petry has 15 points (4g, 11a) in 59 games in Edmonton this year. The 6-foot-3, 200 pound defenseman is also third worst on the team with a -25 rating and he also has totaled 32 PIMs in that time.
Petry is a young guy at 27 years-old, so he fits in with Wilson’s preferences as well. But he is a UFA this upcoming summer and Wilson is not a big fan of playoff rentals. I’m guessing that Oilers GM Craig MacTavish would want a prospect and a draft pick for Petry — and that price could rise as the deadline nears and more teams gain interest in him.
Possible Trade:
To SJS: Jeff Petry
To EDM: Matt Irwin, Freddie Hamilton, a third round draft pick
Chance of happening: 10%
