This latest five-game stretch didn’t start as planned for the Golden State Warriors, dropping the first two games in Los Angeles, but they returned to the Warriors brand of basketball we’ve come to know and love in the games since.

Game 1

After a big win at home versus the Sacramento Kings, the Warriors traveled to Southern California the following day to take on the Los Angeles Lakers. Without Kobe Bryant (or even with him), this game was seen as an easy victory for Golden State.

But that’s why they play the game.

The game started out fairly even, with the score being tied 18-18 at one point during the first quarter.  From there, it would be all Lakers. The score at the end of the first quarter was 34-24, and the Warriors never recovered. To put it simply, shots were falling for the Lakers and they weren’t for the Warriors.

Even A.J. Price got it going for Los Angeles, knocking down three consecutive three-pointers during the third quarter.  Price is  a career 29 percent three-point shooter.

After three quarters, the Dubs trailed 95-73.

Stephen Curry briefly went into human torch mode during the quarter, but it was too little too late. Curry ended the night shooting 1o-of-14, with 22 points and six assists.

Golden State’s bench made things interesting in the fourth quarter.  Trailing by as much as 22 points, they cut the lead down to just eight points, but it was with just a minute left in the game.

The final score ended up being Lakers 115, Warriors 105.

"“They kicked our (butts). They were much better than we were,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “We weren’t ready to play. We started turning the ball over immediately. We never had any energy, which is going to happen occasionally in the NBA with 82 games.”"

Golden State fell to 23-4 with the loss.
