Game 2

After a day off, the Warriors were back at Oracle Arena to take on Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans.  Perhaps the best all-around effort on the season led to yet another Warriors win, 112-85.

Led by Thompson’s 23 points, five different Warriors scored in double digits. Curry added 19, followed by 17 points by Harrison Barnes, Green with 14 and Marreese Speights off the bench with 12. Three different Warriors grabbed double digit rebounds, with Green leading the way with 14.  Bogut hauled in 11, and Barnes added 10.

The Warriors had a slow start to the game, trailing by six at the end of the first quarter, but it was all Golden State from there.

A huge second quarter, in which the Dubs outscored the Pelicans 31-12, put the Warriors in the driver’s seat, and they never looked back. Golden State had everything going for them in this one, scoring 112 points while only allowing 85.

On the defensive end, Bogut blocked four shots, and Curry had four steals to lead in those categories, respectively. Everything from defensive rotations and switching on screens to closing out on jump shots, the Warriors were defensively sound.  Aside from Davis, who did Davis things (30 points, 15 rebounds, 3 blocks and a few highlight dunks), the Pelicans were kept in check.

"“That’s the best game we’ve played in a long time,” rookie coach Steve Kerr said. “Part of it was that we knew we were challenged by this team. It was good for our team to come in and feel threatened, and as a result kind of get our edge back.”"

On their way to their 11th consecutive victory, the Warriors tallied 11 steals and eight blocks while forcing the Pelicans into 17 total turnovers.  Golden State improved to 16-2 with this win.
