The Wild History of Game 6

6.) Josh Beckett Slams the Door on the Yankees

Before Madison Bumgarner‘s brilliant complete game shutout of the Royals this past Sunday, then Florida Marlins’ pitcher, Josh Beckett, was the last player to stymie a team with such dominance in a peerless effort against the Yankees in the 2003 series.

Beckett’s performance was a thing of beauty. He sawed off bats with 97 MPH fastballs that painted the corners; his curveball was breaking nearly two feet per pitch. He challenged a powerful Yankee’s lineup and made them look like tee-ballers.

Beckett’s series-clinching outing was one of modern baseball’s finest postseason pitching performances.
