Before this season, I had Matt Tennyson ranked as the eighth defenseman on my list, and he was sent down at the same time as Hamilton with nine defenseman still left at camp, making him the 10th-11th best defenseman in the system.

I really thought that he would do everything in his power to be that seventh defenseman, but he underachieved. Who knows, maybe he just had bad luck, but this was also a really big camp for him and honestly, he kind of blew it.

Tennyson was the second leading scorer on defense for Worcester last year with seven goals and 14 assists for 21 points, just three less than their leading defensive scorer Dylan DeMelo. Tennyson however, did have the worst plus/minus on the team with a -25, which was the fifth worst in the AHL last season.

Tennyson is really going to have to sure up his defensive game before he even thinks about becoming an NHL regular.
