The San Francisco Giants will start a three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix today, after sweeping them in a three-game series less than a week ago.

The Giants and the Diamondbacks last played in San Francisco on September 9th-11th. The Giants swept the series, after winning the first game by a final score of 5-1, winning the second game 5-0, and winning the third game 6-2.

The Diamondbacks are currently in fourth place in the NL West with a 61-88 record. They are 3-7 in their last 10 games, and they have an embarrassing 31-44 record at home.

More from San Francisco Giants

Coming off of a significant series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Giants are still second place in the NL West, and they are three games behind the Dodgers. They currently have a 82-67 record and a 40-32 record on the road.

The Giants have gone 11-5 against the Diamondbacks so far this season, and they’ve gone 5-2 in Arizona. This is, yet again, a winnable series for the Giants, so they must take advantage of this series at this point in the season, especially after just losing a series to the Dodgers.

In this series, the Giants will face some of the pitchers that they saw in the previous series against the Diamondbacks. Here are the pitching matchups for the series:

Monday Sept. 15th at 6:40 pm PT: Ryan Vogelsong (8-10, 3.90 ERA) vs. Wade Miley (7-11, 4.28 ERA)

Vogelsong’s last start was against the Diamondbacks on September 10th, and he went 6 2/3 innings and gave up just two hits and no runs. He’s started four games against the Diamondbacks this season, and he has a 1-1 record in those games with a 3.91 ERA.

Miley’s last start was against the Giants on September 9th, and he lasted just two innings, which was the shortest outing for him so far this season. In that start, he gave up five hits, three earned runs, and he walked four. Against the Giants this season, he has a 3.94 ERA and a 2-1 record in three starts.

Tuesday Sept. 16th at 6:40 pm PT: Jake Peavy (5-4, 2.29 ERA) vs. Josh Collmenter (10-7, 3.67 ERA)

Peavy continued his dominance as a Giant in his last start against the Diamondbacks on September 11th when he went 5 2/3 innings, gave up six hits, gave up one earned run, and struck out eight. Peavy is now 5-1 with a 1.12 ERA in his last six starts, and he’s only given up 15 earned runs in 59 innings since becoming a Giant.

Collmenter also excelled in his last start, which was against the Giants on September 10th. He went six innings, gave up just three hits, and gave up no earned runs. In his last four starts (27 2/3 innings), he has a 0.65 ERA, and opponents are hitting just .154 off of him with a .165 slugging percentage.

Wednesday Sept. 17th at 12:40 pm PT: Madison Bumgarner (18-9, 2.91 ERA) vs. Randall Delgado (3-4, 5.48 ERA)

Bumgarner didn’t pitch in the previous Diamondbacks series, but in his last start against the Dodgers, he was spectacular. He went seven innings, gave up three hits and no earned runs, and he struck out nine. In three starts against the Diamondbacks this season, Bumgarner has gone 2-0 with a 1.96 ERA.

Delgado faced the Giants in his last start on September 11th, and he went four innings, gave up seven hits, and gave up three earned runs. Delgado has started just four games for the Diamondbacks so far this season, and he currently has a 3-4 record and 5.48 ERA on the season.
