There is a strong possibility that Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau both wont have letters on their sweaters to start the next season. There are three strong candidates for the captain and the two to three alternate captain positions. My prediction for captain is obviously, as the title of this slide says, Logan Couture. I think he will prevail against Joe Pavelski, and Mark-Edouard Vlasic because I think he has more of a fire inside. Pavelski and Vlasic are both kind of quiet guys, and I don’t  think that is exactly what you want in your captain. You can see how mad, frustrated, and disappointed Couture is after a playoff loss, especially last year’s. He got into a fight with Mike Richards which brought out his frustration. He also posted on Twitter “F*** this.” To me, this proves that he is more capable of firing up his team than Pavelski and Vlasic.

I do think Pavelski and Vlasic will be alternates if they do decide to make the change in leadership, but I just do not think that they are captain material.
