The good news is that the 49ers didn’t completely miss on a first round pick after Rashaun Woods until 2008 (depending on your opinion of Alex Smith). The bad news is that miss in 2008 is Kentwan Balmer. Balmer was only on the team for a year and a half before he was traded to the Seattle Seahawks for sixth round pick. He played for the Seahawks for one season and then was cut. He was then picked up by the Carolina Panthers, but then waived a week later. He signed with the Redskins for a year in 2011, but did not show up for training camp the following year and promptly disappeared for no explained reason. In 27 career games with the 49ers, Balmer racked up 19 combined tackles and one pass defense. He had no other stats recorded with the 49ers.
