Campaneris was an All-Star for the second time in his career as he helped the A’s to their first World Series title since moving to Oakland and the franchise’s first in 41 years.
He led the American League with 681 plate appearances, 52 stolen bases and 20 sacrifice hits. In advanced metrics, he was eighth in the league in WAR among position players at 5.4 and second in the AL with a Defensive WAR of 3.0. He also had the 10th-best Power-Speed value at 13.9.
He was fifth with a 78.79 stolen base percentage (52-for-66) and sixth with 85 runs.
In the postseason, he played just two games in the ALCS before the incident where he threw a bat at Lerrin LaGrow of the Tigers, earning a fine and a suspension for the remainder of the series (plus the first seven games of the 1973 season), but was 3-for-7 with three runs and two steals in the games he did play.
