Bert Campaneris’ last season in Oakland saw the 34-year-old finish third in the American League with 54 stolen bases, even as his streak of consecutive All-Star Game appearances ended at four. Campaneris was also tied for second in the AL with 18 sacrifice hits and 11 sacrifice flies and his 81.82 stolen base percentage (54-for-66) was also second-best.
Offensively, his slugging average was a career-low .291, as he managed just 16 extra-base hits in 536 at-bats, but did manage to drive in 52 runs for an A’s team that missed the postseason for the first time since 1970, finishing second to the Kansas City Royals in the AL West.
Campaneris played better in the second half, hitting .264/.333/.298 with his lone home run and 30 RBI in 65 games and he was 25-for-26 on the basepaths after the break.
