Miguel Tejada began to break out in 1999, but hit full bloom in 2000, helping the A’s win the American League West for the first time since 1992.
Tejada really caught fire after the All-Star break, hitting .305/.389/.524 in 75 games with 15 home runs and 52 RBI and he helped carry the club down the stretch, hitting nine homers and driving in 26 runs in 29 games in September and October.
In a five-game loss to the New York Yankees in the AL Division Series, Tejada was 7-for-20 with two walks, scoring five runs with two doubles, a stolen base and one RBI. Defensively, he was below average, however, with a total zone rating of -3 (per FanGraphs.com), meaning he was three runs worse than an average shortstop that season.
