Brosius reached career highs in homers, RBI and batting average while stabilizing third base for the rebuilding A’s in 1996. That came despite Brosius missing most of May and June with a broken arm after he was hit by a pitch from Kansas City’s Mark Gubicza.
He was seventh in the American League with a 2.0 Defensive WAR and led AL third basemen with 19 Total Zone Runs.
Brosius also led AL third basemen with seven stolen bases and was second with a .393 on-base percentage and .909 OPS.
He had a great first half, posting a .331/.457/.619 batting line in 40 games, with 32 runs, seven doubles, 11 homers and 34 RBI. Before he was hurt, he was hitting .351/.479/.660 in 28 games, with 21 runs, eight home runs and 21 RBI.
