The A’s traded the 34-year-old Grant to the Pirates in September for a player to be named later, acquiring outfielder Angel Mangual the following spring. That came after picking up Grant the previous December, purchasing his contract from St. Louis. The former All-Star starter with the Twins solidified the A’s bullpen before being dealt.
He was seventh in the American League with a 4.5 WAR for Pitchers.
