The A’s plunged in the standings in 1991, winning 84 games and finishing fourth in the AL West after three straight pennants, but Henderson wasn’t the reason why. He posted career highs in hits and home runs and made the only All-Star Game appearance of his career, starting the game in right field.
He led AL center fielders with 25 homers, was second with a .465 slugging percentage and third with 85 RBI, 86 runs, 33 doubles and an .811 OPS.
Henderson had a big first half for the A’s, hitting .298/.378/.551 in 76 games, with 54 runs, 18 doubles, 18 home runs and 50 RBI. He got off to a particularly hot start in April, hitting .387/.453/.747 in 20 games, with 17 runs, nine doubles, six homers and 18 RBI.
